Bandung Islamic University (Unisba) made another achievement in the global arena. In the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, Unisba managed to enter the ranks of world campuses by achieving 35 national rankings, ranking 1st in Private Islamic Universities (PTIS) in West Java, and entering the world rankings 1001-1500 from a total of 2,318 universities assessed.
This ranking measures the commitment and contribution of higher education institutions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations (UN), which cover topics such as quality of education, gender equality, and action on climate change.
The Rector of Unisba, Prof. Dr. H. Edi Setiadi, S.H., M.H., welcomed this achievement. He called this success a tangible result of the institutional strategic steps he had taken since the beginning of his second term.
“This means that my ijtihad to revive the position of Vice Rector IV did not go wrong. One of the targets in my work programme is internationalisation, and the first step I took was to re-establish the office of Vice-Rector for Cooperation, Internationalization, and Public Relations,” said Prof. Dr. H. Edi Setiadi, S.H., M.H. when interviewed on Monday (23/6).
He emphasised that the move has now proven to be the right one. “With this achievement, the world has recognised Unisba’s existence globally. Through THE Impact Rankings, we prove that Unisba can compete among world-renowned universities,” he said.
However, Prof. Dr. H. Edi Setiadi, S.H., M.H. reminded that the award was not the end of the struggle. According to him, this is a momentum to continue improving quality and strengthening commitment to carrying out the mandate of the founders of Unisba. “This award is actually a warning for us. That we should not be complacent, let alone become arrogant. Instead, this is a whip to continue improving ourselves,” Prof. Dr. H. Edi Setiadi, S.H., M.H. said.
‘I am sure that the founders of Unisba from the beginning had great ideals, not just opening lectures, but making Unisba the hope of the people and an institution that contributes to the intellectual life of the nation,’ he added.
He also said that the results will be seen if the implementation is orderly, thorough, and neat in administrative matters, both in documentation, governance, and human resource development. ‘It turns out we can get to this point, and the world looks at us,’ he said.
In the future, Unisba will target a better position. “If now we are in the 1001-1500 cluster, hopefully, in the future we can penetrate the position below 1000. That is a realistic target,” he concluded.***
