KOMHUMAS: Universitas Islam Bandung (Unisba) received an honorary visit from the National University of Singapore (NUS), the first-ranked university in Asia and the eighth in the world according to QS World University Rankings (WUR) 2025. Unisba hosted the implementation of elective lecture modules in the NUS Student Mobility programme for three days, Friday to Sunday, 16-18 May 2025.
The opening ceremony took place on the 8th floor of the Gedung Dekanat Unisba and was attended by Unisba Vice Rector IV Prof. Dr. Ratna Januarita, S.H., LL.M., M.H., Vice Deans III from 10 faculties, as well as guests from NUS consisting of 16 students and five accompanying staff: Dr. Giuseppe Timperio, Ms. Vijaya Lakshiymi, Ms. Lee Sie Min, Dr. Nidhi Sharma, and Mr. Timoty Jessen.
Vice Rector IV Unisba expressed his pride in this collaboration in his speech. “NUS is a special place for me. So, hosting this programme is a great honour,” said Prof. Ratna.
The three-day programme results from an academic and cultural collaboration that has been in the making for the past two years. The focus of activities included cultural exchange, educational dialogue, and contextual learning about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Field activities included visits to Saung Angklung Udjo, Tangkuban Perahu Mountain Tourism Area, tea gardens, and a cultural walk on Braga Street. On the last day, an academic dialogue session on the Unisba campus presented reflections and ideas from students from both universities.
A total of 31 Unisba students who are members of the Unisba Global Inspired Society (UGIS) community took part as committees and activity assistants. They acted as liaison officers (LO), documentation, logistics, and event coordinators, representing various faculties at Unisba.
Head of International Office Unisba, Siska Nia Irasanti, drg., M.M., stated, ‘This activity is not only an academic exchange, but also a form of friendship, cross-cultural empathy, and togetherness in a global vision.’ She said.
One of the supervisors from NUS, Dr Giuseppe, expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome from the Unisba community. “We are very touched by the enthusiasm and openness of Unisba students. This programme is awe-inspiring and full of meaning.” He said.
As a continuation of the success of this programme, Unisba is preparing for further collaboration, one of which is entitled UGEO (Unisba Student Global Motion) – International Office with NUS, which is planned to take place in August 2025.
‘The spirit of learning, collaboration, and curiosity shown by the participants – both from NUS and Unisba – reflects our hope for the future of global education,’ Prof Ratna concluded.
