Tampere Summer School is jointly organised by Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences. It offers inspiring courses covering a range of academic fields and up-to-date topics. The Summer School is open for university students and graduates from all around the world.
The summer of 2022 will be the fifth summer school organized together with Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences. During these four years over 1100 students have spent two weeks of their summer with us while learning something new, making friends from all over the world and enjoying the Finnish nature and the relaxed atmosphere in Tampere!
In addition to studying, Tampere Summer School students have the opportunity to enjoy social events and explore the city in their free time. Tampere is a compact-sized active and vibrant city with a relaxed atmosphere, and the beautiful lake surroundings display the amazing Finnish nature at its best. Tampere Summer School offers possibilities to expand your international network also by joining our optional online social activities. For degree students of Tampere Universities, Tampere Summer School offers an excellent chance to earn extra credits in the summer and enjoy the international atmosphere in your home city. All courses are free of charge for degree and exchange students of Tampere Universities!
Eligibility
Tampere Summer School is intended for university and applied university students and graduates from all over the world. We welcome applications from Bachelor, Master and PhD students of all academic fields, but please remember to check course-specific requirements in the course descriptions.
Requirements for all applicants
- should have completed a minimum of 1-2 years of university / applied university studies prior to the start of courses
- must be proficient in English
- please note more specific language requirements if you are applying as an exchange or a degree student to the Tampere University or Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK).
Application documents
To apply for the Summer School courses, the students need to fill in an online application and submit a motivation letter for the course(s) applied for. Students can be admitted up to two summer school courses. If you are applying to two or more courses, make sure that the courses do not overlap from the teaching timetable.

Motivation letter
The motivation letter is a short document (max. 500 words) where the students should specify why they want to take this course and how it would fit with their studies. If you apply for more than one course, you need to submit a separate motivation letter for each course applied for. There are no specific requirements on how to write the letter, but the following questions may be used as a guidance:
- Why did you choose this course?
- Do you have previous studies in this topic/field?
- How do you think this course would fit your degree and/or other plans?
The motivation letter(s) will be submitted via the application form. Please use .doc/.docx, .rtf or .pdf format and name the file Lastname.Firstname_Course title.
