BANDUNG – U-GIS is once again hosting its “Charity Auction” humanitarian event. This formal charity auction was initiated as a tangible manifestation of the 3M values (Mujahid, Mujtahid, and Mujaddid), which form the core foundation of the Islamic University of Bandung (Unisba). Through a creative initiative that combines the enthusiasm of the academic community with the spirit of Islamic philanthropy, this event is dedicated entirely to raising funds for orphanages in Bandung.
“They ask you ˹O Prophet in˺ what ˹way˺ they should donate. Say, “Whatever donations you give are for parents, relatives, orphans, the poor, and ˹needy˺ travelers. Whatever good you do is certainly well known to Allah.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 215).
Behind the excitement of the auction, the U-GIS Charity Auction is closely aligned with two Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): poverty eradication (SDG 1) and strengthening partnerships (SDG 17). An inclusive reciprocal relationship occurs in the context of SDG 1, where the auction’s impact goes beyond providing temporary logistical aid, but rather targets short-term financial security and the fulfillment of basic operational needs for orphanages in Bandung City, ensuring that the children in their care are shielded from the risks of extreme poverty and social inequality. This acceleration in poverty alleviation can proceed simultaneously thanks to the convergence of SDG 17, which positions the U-GIS Community as a catalyst for social bridges. This event successfully mobilized a robust multi-stakeholder solidarity partnership model and integrated the contributions of faculty members who donated their expertise, as well as alumni and students who served as auction bidders, collectively addressing social welfare issues at the urban level in a tangible and sustainable manner.
This event will take place on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM WIB at Taman Sari 1, Hj. Kartimi Kridhoharsojo Building. The orphanage we will be visiting is the Fajar Harapan Children’s Social Care Home, established in 2002 in the Surapati area, which serves as a home for orphans and children from underprivileged families to learn and grow. The excitement of the event reached its peak when the live bidding began in the auction hall. Led by an auctioneer from Ugisian, the atmosphere in the room instantly became highly charged and competitive. Each participant present vied to outbid one another in predetermined nominal increments. A thrilling sense of positive tension filled the air in the final seconds before the auctioneer’s gavel fell. At that crucial moment, participants enthusiastically competed to secure their dream items or services while also bidding as high as possible to maximize donation proceeds.
From the auction proceedings, which lasted a full day, the organizing committee generated substantial proceeds. The total donations collected reached Rp. 3,555,000, comprising the main auction, the closed auction, and the open auction.
Nevertheless, the event’s proceedings left room for improvement. The number of participants present at the venue fell short of initial expectations, as only a few people attended, and some of them did not even stay for the entire event. Furthermore, the auction results were lower than hoped. Despite these limitations, however, the Ugisian community’s enthusiasm for carrying out this noble initiative remained undiminished. Instead, this evaluation served as a catalyst for hope that future Charity Auctions can be organized on a much larger scale and attract a much larger crowd, both from the student body and the faculty of Unisba.
The Ugisians present in the room were left with a deep impression and a valuable experience. Mila, one of the participants, expressed her delight, describing the live bidding atmosphere as thrilling and hoping that the variety of auction items would continue to expand next year. A similar tone of satisfaction came from Rady, who considered the event highly unconventional for successfully commercializing unique services created by Ugisian, ranging from companionship and conversation to tour guiding, filmmaking, and massage services that serve as a charitable contribution to an orphanage. For Mika, who also served on the organizing committee, this direct involvement provided the best experience because she was able to understand firsthand how a professional auction system operates.
In the end, the gavel struke at the 3rd U-GIS auction brought smiles of joy to everyone. The conversion of valuable goods and professional services into fresh funds serves as tangible proof that the values of Mujahid, Mujtahid, and Mujaddid can be implemented in ways relevant to the times, thereby spreading widespread benefits to the community. To conclude the series of events, U-GIS expressed its deepest appreciation and gratitude to all donors and participants who have woven together their compassion. It is hoped that this blessed synergy of kindness will continue to grow and return to serve the community on a much larger scale with far greater impact in the years to come.
